In Between Week

03 Aug

I love summer.

Wow – an in-between week! You know the kind of week I am talking about. Between camp and school. These weeks are challenging, to say the least.  After all, the children need to have a full calendar.

BR finished camp last week and he is headed off to grandma’s place next week. So this week was as an in-between week, a.k.a. “Daddy Day Camp.” Talk about bonding! Lots and lots and lots of bonding.

Each day we have had something on the calendar. We went swimming at the town pool on Monday and are going again today. On Tuesday, we saw Ice Age Continental Drift. On Wednesday, we went miniature golfing. Tried anyway. The wait was so long we just ended up playing at the arcade. Thursday was to be the crown jewel.

On Thursday, we went to Field Station Dinosaurs. This pricey exhibit (nearly $60 for the two of us) in Seacaucus, NJ, featured life-like dinosaurs. The dinosaurs moved and roared. Very cool.  For those who have kids that are crazy for dinosaurs, it is worth it. BR and I enjoyed it despite the hot weather. We both jumped at least once when a dinosaur roared unexpectedly.

I don’t know exactly how we will fill the rest of August (other than our vacation week). What I do know is I love summer. Even the in-between weeks. However, I may need some un-bonding space soon.

Off to the pool.

P.S. Next week, I have a new camper – SY.

Good grief. You sound just like my husband. Every day he has time off something is planned. You guys give boring moms like me a bad rap. Dad are fun and mom is doing laundry. 😉

I feel guilty staying home with them all day. I already feel as if they watch too much television. So, yes I try to be a a fun dad.
Did you get the comment I made on your about section?

I like that term “un-bonding time.” It’s great to have the bonding time for sure, but also great to recognize when you need a break. The dinosaurs sound awesome!

Wow! You’re a super camp counselor, dad! Can I send my girls to you the following week? I have had a bunch of those in-between weeks this summer and I’m just starting to get used to them and planning some fun activities. We’re off to the zoo, a summer concert in the park and maybe a museum or pool next week – 2 or 3 activities per week do me in! Thanks for the inspiration!

Staying busy! I have to keep busy with my two boys at home all summer (we don’t do summer camps but the OT, PT, and lots of swimming keeps us going) or we would all go crazy. Park visits and water play in the front yard define summer for us. The dinosaur exhibit sounds like a lot of fun.

Un-bonding space, yeah, I could use some of that myself!

All summer – that would be tough.
Hope you get your un-bonding space soon.

I think we all need a little un-bonding time sometimes! Even the kids!!

How was Ice Age? I really want to see that movie. My daughter would love that dinosaur exhibit! Too bad we’re too far away. 😦 Good luck with the rest of the summer!

Ice Age – good not great. It reminded me of on of the earlier movies. Plus, they had this bad guy that might be much for little kids.
Bummer about the dinosaur exhibit. It was cool!

Enjoy the time with your boys. Time goes so fast and before you know it, they will have families of their own.
Have a happy rest of the summer.
